Since 2002, SER OM SHANTI YOGA STUDIO has been at the heart of the community of Tamarindo, Costa Rica, offering a diversity of bilingual classes in a space of wellbeing and evolution, being the Yoga center pioneering in the area.
Our team of certified and highly qualified teachers will provide personalized modifications and individual adjustments guiding you in a safe, challenging and enriching experience, whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner.
Yoga in SER OM SHANTI YOGA STUDIO will be one of the highlights of your experience in Costa Rica. Let’s go deeper, let’s go higher!
We love to hear the feedback we get from our students. They all agree on the fact that everyone, beginners or experienced practitioners, receives individual and personalized adjustments necessary to refine their practice. This is how we create a motivating, safe, relaxing but still challenging and enriching experience…
The sequences of asanas (yoga postures) and Mat Pilates exercises that we teach are designed in a balanced and progressive careful way with special attention to the degree of intensity and complexity adapting them to the student’s physical preparation and group level.
When the instructor observes it appropriate, the use of props such as blocks, belts, blankets and bolsters may be incorporated to help the student to achieve greater flexibility and increased performance of the body. From the opening invocation to the final relaxation or to the optional meditation, the student will be inspired to evolve and deepen their practice; conscious of being one in mind, body, spirit.
Hatha yoga focuses on the practice of asanas (yoga postures) while being aware of breathing at all times. The rhythm of motion and breath allows the instructor to place special emphasis on construction and alignment technique…
Practice by practice, you are going to prepare your body to go into more intense positions.

For this, we include exercises that unblock and release different areas in your body, strengthen another ones while stretching global joints and working on the introduction of Pranayama (breath). The practice also includes elements of the teachings of great Yoga Master B.K.S. Iyengar.
The practitioner develops a greater awareness and corporal consciousness, rediscovering his own body in motion while gaining in confidence and “ability to direct attention (mind) to something without any break” (Yoga Sutras, Patanjali).
Some variation of Hatha: Gentle Hatha Yoga Our Gentle Hatha classes are ideal for students who are looking for a practice that challenges them in a moderate way; for students who are just beginning their yoga journey and/or for students who have limited mobility or injuries. The focus of the practice is on the implementation of asanas (yoga postures) while being aware of breathing at all times. We will include exercises that unblock and release in a gentle way, while stretching global joints and working on the introduction of Pranayama (consciousness of the breath) and relaxation techniques.

Vinyasa means breath synchronized with movement. It emphasizes the practice of evolutionary sequences of asanas (postures), in a correct alignment coordinated with a fluid and sustained breathing.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a dynamic, intense and invigorating Hatha Yoga.
In the synchronization of movement, breathing, drishtis (gaze focus) mudras (gestures) and bandhas; Vinyasa Flow Yoga transforms into a meaningful meditation in motion. All levels are welcome, the Yoga instructor is there to give you support with modifications if you are a beginner or with deep and intense variations to refine your practice.
Some possible variations of Vinyasa Yoga are:
POWER VINYASA YOGA: is a high intense Yoga practice for intermediate and advanced students. You will flow continuously through intense sequences of sun salutations and challenging postures, linking breathing with movement and work to develop strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. We will also invigorate and stimulate the mind through arm balances and inversions. Synchronizing breathing and movement in the sequences of asanas produces an intense internal heat and sweat. Improved blood circulation, relieves joint pain and removes toxins and disease from the internal organs. The purpose of Power Vinyasa is the internal cleansing, removing energies of low frequency.
SLOW FLOW YOGA: This class is to remind you about the beauty of the strength and power that is found in every inch of movement. We move as if we were underwater, activating muscle groups with detail. Using the breath as the fuel to keep the slow flow all throughout class.

Restorative Yoga uses props such as blocks, blankets, straps and bolsters to support the body in poses that open as we relax or rest in the pose. This allows gravity to do the work for us.

Our Yin Yoga practice is a series of passive stretching postures, mainly on the floor, held for long periods of time (2-10 minutes). We take a meditative approach to the class; encouraging the students to surrender into the pose and relax the muscles in order to access the deeper connective tissues.

Pilates is a physical fitness system, a concept that focuses training exercises in the quality of movement and precision in execution, integrating body and mind to work in concentration and conscious breathing.
Strength, muscle tone and flexibility (in particular: abdomen, buttocks, thighs and arms) can be achieved. The ability to increase breath capacity, elasticity and joint mobility are to follow.
Being able to correct posture, relieve stress, reduce back and neck pain is also achievable. And then an increased concentration, balance and physical and mental wellbeing is obtained.
“Just getting the perfect balance of mind and body can really appreciate what the normal health.”
— Joseph Pilates.

Yoga Therapy sessions are fully personalized. As the instructor evaluates and learns the individual need of the student, the instructor designs a special sequence of postures applying the principles of biomechanics and understanding of physiology. The instructor will introduce the appropriate changes and adjustments to release blocked areas, correct posture and movement patterns to improve the routine of health.
Yoga therapy is considered a complementary discipline * in the path to wellness, physical, mental and spiritual. This comprehensive approach helps prevent disease and maintain health. Prior knowledge of Yoga is not required.
*Yoga Therapy does not replace the advice, diagnosis or medical indications from your medical professionals.

The program of Yoga, Pilates and Fitness for athletes in Ser Om Shanti Yoga Studio is focused on optimizing the sporting gesture. The instructor will assist the athlete whether professional or amateur to achieve consistency, endurance and enhanced performance. After an assessment, the instructor develops a work program tailored around the goals, needs and interests of the athlete. The program is offered in preference to the student, either in a small group or individually.
Additional benefits include, increase balance, strength and proprioception; high resistance and increase lung capacity and to minimize pre-post competitive stress. The student’s performance is the result of a global action, physical, mental and emotional.

The individual instructive classes are one-on-one workshops, where only you and the teacher are present. Because this is your personal experience our teacher will be intuitive and supportive in all areas of your yoga practice. Semi-private classes for groups are also available.

We also offer class packages* that allow you to save money if you plan to take more than one class.
*All of our class packages are valid for one month from the first day of use. They are non-refundable and non-transferable, for use for one person at a time, not be shared.

Mariel is the owner-founder and director of SER Om Shanti Yoga Studio in Tamarindo, Costa Rica and has been dedicated to teaching Yoga since 2002. She has studied in India, Indonesia, Argentina and Costa Rica, training in Hatha Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga, Raja Yoga, Anatomical Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Pilates and Yoga Nidra. In addition to her regular Yoga and Pilates classes, she teaches in Teacher Trainings and intense master classes for Yoga instructors who like to refine their practice and improve their teaching.
About Mariel
Mariel began her personal practice in Yoga with the daily intention of accomplishing inner self-knowledge and spiritual growth, and stretching and strengthening of the physical body. A short time later, she perceived that Yoga had changed her life beyond her expectations. In 2001, Mariel moved from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Tamarindo, Costa Rica, a country full of tranquility and inspiration, seeking to discover new horizons. There she began her teaching of Yoga.
Her remarkable method and academic perspective For over 20 years through her career as a mathematic teacher and investigator, she has obtained a deep experience in methodology. She also includes this same philosophy into her Yoga and Pilates classes, making them unique from a pedagogical perspective. Her classes are based on an evolved and balanced sequences of postures, coordinated by the harmonious and fluid rhythm of the breath. They combine the technical development and individual adjustments correcting, in a personalized manner, the precise alignment of each posture adapting its level of intensity.
Mariel’s devoted teaching is characterized by guiding each student in a personalized manner; ensuring that each one cultivates their maximum potential, and inspiring them to regain their ability to reconnect with themselves.
“My students are a true motivation for me, and at the same time, great teachers.”
Her Mission in Life
Trusting in her inner voice, Mariel always focused fully on her dharma or mission in life: to bring harmony and joy, to assist others in their deep search of the BEING, to share the experience of the practice of Yoga and meditation, awakening the commitment of connecting with the inner peace (Shanti) flowing towards the freedom of only BEING. From that feeling was born the name of her Studio: SER OM SHANTI YOGA STUDIO.
Her training
Mariel has studied in Argentina, India, Indonesia and Costa Rica. She completed her instruction in Hatha Yoga with her beloved teacher and guru, Yamila Belsolla, director of the Ananda Yoga Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina: centroanandayoga.com.ar. Her guru has been a student of Krishnamacharya, Iyengar and Pathabi Jois (masters of the Krishnamacharya lineage).
In 2009, Mariel returned to Argentina and dedicated eight months to the intensive study of Therapeutic Yoga and Raja Yoga at the Ananda Yoga Center in Buenos Aires. Her studies focused on Biomechanics have given her an extensive knowledge of the “Anatomy of Movement”. Back in Costa Rica, she further deepened her knowledge of “Anatomy of Yoga” by studying intensively with the renowned Yoga teacher and surgeon Ray Long, author of the books of the Bandha Yoga series: bandhayoga.com.
On her trip to India, Mariel had the opportunity to experience the millenary culture of that country and approach the primary source of Yoga. In her time at the Ashram Omkarananda Patanjala Yoga Kendra in Rishikesh, India, (https://www.iyengaryoga.in/) she studied Hatha Yoga with the prestigious teacher Usha Devi, direct disciple of the great teacher Sri B.K. S. Iyengar and delved into the Philosophy of Yoga with Swami Atma.
In Bali, Indonesia, she deepened her knowledge and practice of Vinyasa Flow in the hands of teacher Denise Payne. She continued her training through numerous courses and workshops. Just to name a few: Vedanta Yoga Nidra with Jeffrey Crespo in the Yoga Mandir School, adjustments in postures with Matías Flury and The Yoga of the Bhagavad Gita with the teacher Ma Shivā Mayi in Costa Rica.
Mariel travels to Argentina, year after year, to study with her teacher. She dedicates an intensive month deepening her learning. “One of my principles is to keep in mind that we are always beginners. The more I learn, the more consciousness I have about how much I still need to learn. From the humility and curiosity of a beginner’s mind in constant formation, I renew energies to share everything new that I have learned with my students. ”

Vale started her regular practice while living in New Zealand around 2008. A year later she got certified as a Yoga Instructor in Costa Rica and Mexico, and began her teaching in Tamarindo which turned out to be her hometown until today.
In her classes, she inspires students to move freely with awareness, willing to accept where they are at the present moment, finding a personal balance between effort and ease. She encourages most of all taking their Yoga practice off the mat and into the world

Meli experiments the Yoga practice as a way to deepen the connection of mind, body and soul. Her yogic path started during her trip across Latin America in 2014, where she discovered different teachers and Yoga styles and deepened the practice of meditation, energetical healing and holistic therapies. She was certified as a Yoga teacher in Guatemala in 2019 and moved to Tamarindo to teach.

Camila began practicing Pilates actively in 2022, choosing Ser Om Shanti as her training space. In 2023, she started her Pilates Mat training in Costa Rica with Balanced Body, marking the beginning of her commitment to mindful movement and holistic well-being.
Her autodidactic and curious nature drives her to continuously research and learn. In 2024, she complemented her studies with courses in personal training and hypopressive gymnastics, the latter with the distinguished Argentine physiotherapist and osteopath Lic. Daniela Gasparín.
“For me, physical activity is a celebration of what the body can achieve, and my mission is to inspire others to connect with their potential through movement.”

In her classes, Pamela wants to inspire her students toward an authentic connection between body and mind through conscious movement, presence, and personal exploration.
Pamela discovered the practice of yoga in 2010 and has since cultivated a deep interest in the many techniques and teachings this discipline offers.
In 2020, she completed her yoga teacher training (200YTT), and motivated by a desire to continue deepening her practice, she pursued further studies in restorative yoga, Ashtanga, meditation, and Ayurveda. Along this journey, she developed a profound admiration for the human body and its capacity for transformation.
In her search to integrate various tools that promote holistic well-being, she also trained as a Pilates and Barre instructor.

At SER OM SHANTI YOGA STUDIO we are constantly creating experiences and proposing workshops for yoga instructors and students who wish to develop awareness of their own body and alignment of postures, breathing techniques and all the more subtle aspects of the practice that allow them to raise and deepen their level.
Ser Om Shanti Yoga Studio warmly invites you to an evening set aside for quiet, depth, and genuine rest.
We’re honored to share a Gong Bath guided by Laura and Jerad of Pura Vida Vibrations, known for their precise and disciplined approach to sound as a tool for profound restoration.
IG: @puravidavibrations
A Gong Bath is simple.
You lie down, get comfortable, and allow the sound to meet you where you are.
There is nothing to follow, nothing to figure out.
The layers of sound unfold naturally, and over time, the body begins to soften, the breath slows, and the mind grows quiet.
In some ways, you can think of it as immersing the body in a field of therapeutic vibration, similar to how ultrasound is used in physical therapy, except here, the entire system is gently bathed in sound. Not to fix or force anything, but to support the body in returning to its own balance.
In a world that often asks us to do more, this is a space where you’re invited to do less,
to pause, to listen, and to rest in a way that is both gentle and deeply restorative.
“Where words fall away, sound begins, and the body remembers.” ![]()

A Sound Journey is not a concert, nor a guided meditation in the traditional sense.
It’s an immersive experience where the frequencies of gongs, voice, bowls, and harmonic instruments carry you beyond the mind.
As sound waves unfold through the space, the body comes into resonance, the mind softens, and the heart remembers its natural rhythm.
A sacred pause, to release, to listen, and to let sound realign you from within. ![]()

Give your nervous system a full night off 🎶💆♀️
A Gong Puja is basically an overnight gong bath. The gongs play quietly, non‑stop, for about 7.5 hours while you rest. Not loud or intense…more like a low, steady purr in the background.
This one is held on the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. A natural pause point for closing one season and quietly stepping into the next.
You bring a cushion or travel mattress, your favorite pillows and blankets, pajamas, and settle in for the night. Some people sleep. Some drift in and out. Some just lie there and let their body finally unclench.
All night, the sound does the work for you…helping your muscles soften, your breath deepen, and your entire system downshift out of “go mode.” By morning, most people feel lighter, clearer, and more rested than they have in a long time. 🌅✨
If you’ve been running on empty and your body’s asking for a reset, this is one night dedicated entirely to that without any substances

This course is designed to explore backbends in a progressive and conscious way, using props — bolster, blocks, belts and blankets — as tools for learning, refinement, and embodied understanding.
Our intention in the workshop is to create space from within, lengthening the spine through strength and stability in the trunk, integrating freedom of movement, conscious breathing, and a calm attitude as we gently expand our comfort zone.
The use of props makes it possible to:
• Create space and avoid compression and pain
• Enter the posture without compensation
• Allow the opening to arise from inner intelligence rather than superficial effort
• Maintain safety throughout the practice
The aim is… to create space.
– Space to breathe.
– Space to feel.
– Space for the heart to open without force.
Open to practitioners of all levels, instructors, and anyone who wishes to understand backbends through sensitivity, technique, and support.

Embark on a holistic journey during each class, carefully structured to guide you through distinct phases:
We start by cultivating mindfulness and conscious breathing, grounding ourselves in the present moment.

Here, we refine alignments, hold poses, and experience their profound depths.
We finish the first 90 min of practice with a deep relaxation.
At this time you can choose to end your practice or continue with us in Meditation.
We will dedicate the next 15 minutes to Pranayama and Meditation to leave you centered and serene.
Every Sunday, we’ll delve into a unique theme and energy:
Sunday 3rd: Embark on a Sweet Journey to Hanumanasana Split.

Sunday 17th: Explore the World of Twists and Backbends.

Without a doubt the best yoga studio in Tamarindo. I have been attending sessions here regularly for six months and I fully credit Mariel, the *genius* owner of Ser Om Shanti, with transforming my body, posture, and even my attitude. If you’re serious about your growing your yoga practice — or even just getting in touch with your body and spirit while vacationing in Tama — this is the place to go.

I have been practising with Mariel and Ser om Shanti for nearly 10 years now and it is my favourite yoga place in the world. The teachers are so brilliant- friendly, helpful and bilingual and the studio is the essence of calm. They also do gorgeous outdoor classes by the beach on certain days. The timetable is designed for both beginners and those who wish to advance their yoga journey. I can’t recommend Ser om Shanti enough! Every time I practice with Mariel, I learn something new- wonderful!

my husband and i booked a private session with Mariel. the studio is a dream, the most beautiful and peaceful I’ve seen. We’re both beginners but i must say, Mariel is the most genuine, professional and knowledgeable instructor we’ve ever has the pleasure of working with! She cares, takes her time, explains the biology of the moves & really helps with fine-tuning your posture so that each pose is done Correctly! It was a True Pleasure to meet this magical woman & I hope to go back in the near future. from the bottom of my heart, mucho gracias senora!!!

If I could only use two words, i would choose VERY PROFESSIONAL.
I was looking for a yoga teacher that would: teach me, challenge me show me my errors and correct my posture. That is exactly what i found at Ser Om Shanti studio, each teacher gives personal attention no matter how many people show up, and for me, this is the most important thing I look for in a yoga studio.
